Invitation from Boris Fishman '01

This letter comes from novelist Boris Fishman, a fellow Tiger ('01):

I'll be doing a reading and discussion in Toronto Sunday, Nov. 16, for my novel A Replacement Life, which was on the cover of The New York Times Book Review (a rave!) when it was published by HarperCollins in June. It was also reviewed in the daily Times (also thumbs up) and many other places, including the Wall Street Journal, NPR, Newsweek, NBC, The New Yorker, etc; there was also a profile in PAW over the summer. Incredibly, all the reviews have been exceedingly positive.

The novel is about a failed writer who starts forging Holocaust-restitution claims for old Russian Jews in Brooklyn -- which "came true," more or less as I imagined it, a year after I started writing. It's rich in discussion -- and debate -- topics, especially the distance between the law and justice, and the facts and the truth; how you honor people whose definition of honor is different; and how viable the American Dream remains for today's immigrants.

The event is at a most inconvenient time (10AM), here: http://jbookfestival.srcentre.info/schedule/A-Replacement-Life-class-1482.asp. (9600 Bathurst St., Vaughan.) Would be nice to shake a Tiger's hand far from home.
