A Message from our Neighbours - the PAA of Western NY (Buffalo)

Dear Princetonians,

On Saturday, June 23rd, we are hosting a free, informal event for alumni, current students, and new admits, as well as family members or guests.  Elsie Sheidler, Associate Director of the Pace Center at Princeton, will speak with us about civic engagement.  The lecture will be followed by a small reception with light fare and good company.  We hope you will be able to join us!  The event will take place at 2pm at the Buffalo Seminary High School in Buffalo.  Please RSVP at http://paaofwny.eventbrite.com/

We will also be joining the Princeton Club of Rochester for the Princeton Prize in Race Relations.  This prize recognizes area high school students who have "demonstrated a commitment to advancing the cause of positive race relations," broadly interpreted.  We will discuss this Prize at the event, and will also have sign-up sheets for those interested in helping with this initiative.

Book Reading by Marianne Apostolides '94 at Harbourfront - May 2 2012

Marianne Apostolides '94 will be at Harbourfront to read from her new book, Voluptuous Pleasure: The Truth about the Writing Life. She is the author of four books, including the novels Swim and The Lucky Child, which was longlisted for a ReLit Award. Apostolides is a recipient of the 2011 Chalmers Arts Fellowship.

The event will take place at the Royal Ontario Museum, in the RBC Glass Room on the fourth floor. Guest speaker Sheila Kohler is an award-winning writer and lecturer on Creative Writing at Princeton's Lewis Center for the Arts. Our Speaker: Laila Zichmanis, CEO of Lumena Inc., is an expert in Marketing and Strategy. After receiving her MBA from Schulich School of Business, York University in 1991, Laila joined Procter & Gamble, where she was trained in the disciplines of brand management, and ran flagship brands Bounce and then Tide. In 1997, Laila joined Canadian Tire, and in her 10 years there, she progressed through a number of marketing and merchandising roles, including Director, Retail Brands; Director, CTR Online; Divisional Vice President, Automotive; Vice President, Home Products; and President, Petroleum Division.

Following Canadian Tire, Laila shifted to the healthcare sector, and then started to fulfill her long-term goal of entrepreneurship. Working with smaller companies in a variety of contract and consulting marketing roles, she built the foundation for the launch in 2011 of Lumena Inc. At Lumena Laila focuses on brand launch and invigoration, or as Lumena's tagline states, 'Bringing Brands to Life'. Laila believes that there are many parallels between developing and managing a Product Brand and developing and managing your Personal Brand, and will share her thoughts with us at the Toronto Princeton Global Net Night on March 14th, 2012.
